Dennis Slater is President and Secretary of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM). He oversees operation of all association programs, which focus on core service areas of market information and equipment statistics, product safety and technical support, public policy representation, trade shows, international business development services, education/training and workforce development.
Slater is a member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) in addition to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Association Committee of 100. He served on the Board of the International Association of Exhibitions & Events (IAEE) from 2000 - 2005 and was IAEE chairman in 2004. In 2006 he was named one of the 100 most influential people in the trade show business by "Tradeshow Week" magazine.
Slater served as Co-President of AEM during its 2002 transition year, after the association was formed through the consolidation of two industry organizations, and he was named President in January 2003. He previously served as President and Secretary of the Construction Industry Manufacturers Association (CIMA), one of AEM's predecessor organizations. He joined CIMA in 1982 and held a series of marketing and management posts with increasing responsibilities before being named Executive Vice President in 1994 and President and Secretary in 1998.
Slater is an honors graduate of Carroll College (Waukesha, Wisconsin), where he earned degrees in communications/ journalism, political science and history.
AEM is the North American-based international trade group for the off-road equipment manufacturing industry, and its members manufacture equipment, products and services used worldwide in the agriculture, construction, forestry, mining and utility sectors. AEM has an ownership stake in and/or manages several world-class exhibitions, both in the United States and internationally. These include two which are among the largest of any industry in North America, CONEXPO-CON/AGG (construction focus) and ICUEE-The Demo Expo (utility/construction).
